This is an adorable picture book with lovely, evocative illustrations. I particularly liked those of the wolves traveling, where they are silhouetted against the night sky. It’s so important to introduce your children to new vocabulary.
This activity involves your KS1 class reading the sentences and then deciding if they can replace any two words with a contraction. We explored the character of Wilf in the book and discussed how he always thought he could do everything without any help from anyone else. We used drama to explore the feelings of the other characters when they discovered Wilf had got lost.

At first everything seems dramatic, but then something happens and I was so happy for our tiny wolf. He is getting a nice lesson that it isn’t only about him and that he should also trust in others. This book has the important messaging that everyone needs friends. And sometimes we all need a helping hand from those around us.
Some beautiful landscape illustrations add to the reading experience. If you can forgive the wolves poor parenting, this will make a good bedtime story. The illustrations, especially of the wolf pup are very endearing.

We love the brilliant storyline and beautiful illustrations. So we were really excited to receive The Way Home For Wolf and find out if it was as good as one of Little Mister H’s favourite books. And we weren’t disappointed because The Way Home For Wolf is a gorgeous children’s picture book. I absolutely adore books by Rachel Bright and Jim Field and this new story is no exception. As with all their books, this is a story of friendship, courage and the importance of learning and growth. The rhyming language and beautiful illustrations are wonderful as always.

Be aware the story is told in rhyme, which is honestly not my favorite kind. Sometimes my son doesn't respond or pay attention to rhyming stories, but he did like this one. The story might be distressing for younger readers because it is about a young wolf who gets separated from his wolf pack family.

Not today though, but someday I can see him lead a pack of his own. This picturebook is incredibly wholesome and exquisitely written. The language used to describe the setting itself paints a beautiful picture in the readers head.
He liked to try everything himself and was also very confident. When the pack had to move because their cave was suddenly inhabited by bears, Wilf was eager to take the lead. Wilf, the littlest wolf is sure he can lead the pack, but when he lingers behind on his short legs, he becomes lost. It takes the help of some unlikely friends to help him find his way home.
The activities can also be integrated into weekly literacy stations. This story follows Wilf, a wolf cub who falls behind when his family is traveling through a mountainous, snowy landscape. He is scared and alone, with no idea how he will make it back to his pack.
He anticipates and worries about the wolf which is really cute. It has a cute wolf, some excitement and adventure, and then a sweet ending. I love the illustration style, but the story of a little wolf learning that it might be a little early to be striking out on his own just about put me to sleep. A feel-good tale of friendship set in the snowy Arctic from the creators of the bestselling, multi-award-winning The Lion Inside and The Koala Who Could. Her written work includes children’s stories and poems, clever advertising copy and lots of other stuff besides. Rachel is a writer of words, drawer of pictures and champion of silver linings. She exhibits widely, writes tirelessly and frequently creates slightly unhinged characters. Field’s illustrated Wilf is super appealing – a perfect accompaniment to Bright charming story. After so many warnings of stranger-danger, it is a sweet reminder that strangers also have the power to save us and guide us home.
